Global change and land use change are driving ecosystems to novel extremes. Environmental scientists are challenged to study the basic biology which dictates ecosystem responses to these stresses while delivering research results which can be applied by natural resource managers. I employ tools of observational studies, experimentation, and synthesis to understand ecosystem responses to these challenges.
